Discussion on possible changes to Fairfax County, Virginia’s Comprehensive Plan Site-Specific Plan Amendment (SSPA) process are continuing with substantive input from the Fairfax County Planning Commission. (For background, see McGuireWoods’ Oct. 14, 2021, alert, “Fairfax County Kicks Off Changes to Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process.”)

On Jan. 20, 2022, the Planning Commission’s Land Use Process Review Committee met with planning staff to discuss possible changes and focus areas. Staff’s presentation focused on summarizing feedback from the community survey results, recent meetings with the development industry and other Fairfax County agencies, and comparisons to other local jurisdictions. 

A similar meeting will be held with the Board of Supervisors’ Land Use Policy Committee on Feb. 15, 2022. Final recommendations are anticipated in spring 2022, with adoption of a revised process expected in summer 2022.

The SSPA process will remain an important tool to help correctly match planning guidance to changing market conditions and community preferences. McGuireWoods will continue to monitor the ongoing evolution of the process.
