This week the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expanded its Pathfinder Program by signing the Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRDAs) with Gryphon Sensors, Liteye Systems, Inc. and Sensofusion to add to the detection and identification of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)—or drones—that are flying too close to airports.  FAA Senior Advisor on UAS integration, Marke Gibson, said, “Sometimes people fly drones in an unsafe manner. Government and industry share responsibility for keeping the skies safe, and we’re pleased these three companies have taken on this important challenge.” These three companies will contribute to the Pathfinder Program by utilizing technologies that have the ability to detect, track and identify ‘errant or hostile’ drones in and around airports across the country.
