What Caused the Financial Business and Consumer Solutions Data Breach?

The Financial Business and Consumer Solutions data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, FBCS’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on February 26, 2024, FBCS detected unauthorized activity within its computer network. In response, FBCS secured its systems and then began working with data security specialists to investigate the incident.

This investigation revealed that the FBCS network was subject to unauthorized access between February 14, 2024 and February 26, 2024, during which the unauthorized party was able to view and/or access confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Financial Business and Consumer Solutions reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, and account information. FBCS began notifying its corporate clients on April 4, 2024.
