What Caused the Data Breach Affecting HopSkipDrive?

The HopSkipDrive data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, HopSkipDrive’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides some important information on what led up to the breach. The company also filed a notice with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to these sources, on July 25, 2023, HopSkipDrive got an anonymous email claiming that an unauthorized actor had accessed a third-party application used by the company. In response, HopSkipDrive launched an investigation with the help of industry experts to learn more about the incident and what, if any, consumer information was impacted.

Through this investigation, HopSkipDrive confirmed that an unauthorized actor was able to access information that had been provided to the company between May 31, 2023 and June 10, 2023.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, HopSkipDrive reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, address, driver’s license number and medical information.

On February 6, 2024, HopSkipDrive sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
