On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion to establish permanent guidelines for outdoor dining and move from the temporary pandemic authorizations to a long-term plan.
The motion requested several L.A. County agencies to work together to establish permanent Countywide guidelines for expanded options for outdoor dining spaces. This includes new guidelines for public sidewalks, alleys, and private on-site and off-site parking facilities.
The Board also asked those agencies to develop a plan to transition all restaurants that have temporary outdoor permits to a permanent outdoor dining program. This would include providing assistance to restaurant owners to identify suitable locations if the current locations are not available for outdoor dining, and if necessary to provide traffic safety and accessibility support.
The final motion also includes developing a plan to increase awareness and participation of restaurants in the permanent outdoor dining program, particularly in neighborhoods that were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
The Board separately voted on a motion to support statewide measures to streamline alcohol sales and expand outdoor dining options across California.
