The Association of Plastic Recyclers (“APR”) issued a December 2018 report entitled:
Life Cycle Impacts for Postconsumer Recycled Resins: PET, HDPE, and PP (“Report”)
The Report was submitted by Franklin Associates.
The Report is stated to constitute an update and expansion of a recycled resin study completed in 2011. This study quantified the total energy requirements, energy sources, atmospheric pollutants, waterborne pollutants, and solid waste resulting from the production of recycled PET and HDPE resin from postconsumer plastic.
The Report is intended to provide updated data on the production of recycled PET and HDPE resin. Further, it is stated to add new data for recycling of postconsumer polypropylene resin. Also, it includes life cycle impact assessment results for additional results categories including acidification potential, eutrophication potential, and smog formation potential.
The chapters of the Report include:
-
Life Cycle Methodology
-
Recovery and Recycling Processes
-
Results
