What Caused the LivaNova Data Breach?

The LivaNova data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, LivaNova’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as the company’s April 25, 2024 press release, provide some important information on what led up to the breach.

According to these sources, on November 19, 2023, LivaNova detected an interruption to its IT system. In response, LivaNova secured its systems, reported the incident to law enforcement, and then began working with external cybersecurity experts to conduct an investigation.

Through this investigation, LivaNova confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of its IT network on October 26, 2023, including files containing confidential information belonging to U.S. patients.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, LivaNova reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. LivaNova completed this process on April 10, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, phone number, Social Security number, email address, postal address, date of birth, medical information and health insurance information.

On April 25, 2024, LivaNova posted notice of the incident on its website, indicating that it would be sending out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
