What Caused the LoanPro Data Breach?
The LoanPro data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, LoanPro’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on December 20, 2023, LoanPro learned that it had experienced a data security incident.
While the details describing what happened are sparse, we know that the incident affected certain companies that do business with LoanPro, including Above Lending. To be clear, it does not appear that hackers were able to access any computer system belonging to Above Lending and that all compromised data was stored on LoanPro’s systems.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, LoanPro/Above Lending reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted.
On January 19, 2024, Above Lending sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. While the publicly available data breach letter from Above Lending does not disclose what data types were leaked, the personalized data breach letters sent to individual victims should provide them with a list of what information was compromised.
