What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Longhorn Imaging Center?

The Longhorn Imaging Center data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. At this point, Longhorn Imaging does not appear to have posted a notice describing the incident on its website. However, Longhorn Imaging’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides some information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, Longhorn Imaging recently learned that information that had been entrusted to the company may have been subject to unauthorized access.

In response, Longhorn Imaging launched an investigation, confirming that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential consumer data. At this point, it remains unclear whether this was through a breach of Longhorn Imaging’s systems or whether the incident involved a cyberattack against one of the company’s vendors.

Regardless, after learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Longhorn Imaging Center reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, health information and insurance information. The notice on the Texas AG’s site indicates that there were over 97,000 people in Texas alone who were affected.

On October 25, 2023, Longhorn Imaging Center sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
