Moment #3 – Birth of ARPA-E

Creation of Bipartisan Builder of Our U.S. Energy Future.  In 2007, the U.S. Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law The America COMPETES Act, which officially authorized ARPA-E’s creation. In 2009, Congress appropriated and President Barack Obama allocated $400 million to the new Agency.  The first awards made included at least six companies with MIT connections.  Many, many more awards to companies with MIT roots have followed.
