Australia is a vast, beautiful country, offering many dazzling locations to host a deposition: Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne all come to mind.  Suppose, however, that your witness is somewhere more remote — for instance, Alice Springs in the Northern Territory — and cannot or will not travel to one of the larger cities. You may want to consider mobile videoconferencing for your deposition. If the witness is unable to operate the mobile connection, consider hiring a legal videographer who can step in and double as technician to set up your mobile videoconference and keep it running seamlessly from start to finish.

Mobile videoconferencing is a great option when traditional videoconferencing is unavailable. Depending on the size of the town where your witness resides, it may not be possible to find a hotel offering a conference room with videoconferencing capabilities, but it can be much easier to secure a hotel with stable internet connection to accommodate your needs.  Having your court reporter and videographer present with your witness in a remote location will provide a clear and efficient stream of your proceeding. You can conduct your deposition from your office, saving you time, and your client money.

When preparing for a deposition, it is important to take into account logistical items relating to your deposition. For example, coordinating with local print vendors, your court reporter and videographer team to ensure your exhibits are printed and bound before the deposition starts. The site should be assessed in advance of the deposition so that the connection can be thoroughly tested and any kinks worked out ahead of time.  If an issue does arise during the proceedings, your technician can assist with troubleshooting, as well as connecting your PCs, iPads, or smartphones.

If you are able to attend your deposition in person while in Australia’s Northern Territory, you may want to visit Uluru.  This is a large sandstone rock formation, surrounded by springs, waterholes, ancient paintings, and rock caves.  Walking tours of the area are led by the Anangu people.  Uluru is famous for having seemingly chameleon-like attributes, as it glows red at dawn and sunset and appears to change shades throughout the day.  Uluru is home to a wide variety of animals and plants.  Expect to see kangaroos, emus, lizards, rabbits, and more, as well as a plethora of diverse trees, bushes, flowers, and grasses.
