The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) approved grant requests from local communities for more than $4 million, including close to $867,000 for Columbus County, August 20.

North Carolina is pouring $12 million into grants to expand high-speed internet in 11 rural counties.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the North Carolina Division of Employment Security's plan to give an additional $300 per week to eligible unemployed North Carolinians, according to a news release from the state agency sent Friday.

Republican delegates are meeting in a scaled-down convention Monday morning to officially nominate President Donald Trump as the party’s presidential candidate against Joe Biden in the November election.

WRAL NEWS: NC Attorney General joins suit against postmaster over policies, seeks to reverse recent changes
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein is party to a lawsuit against Postmaster General Louis DeJoy over recent policies that the plaintiffs claim will prevent their constituents from voting by mail.


Transportation

WBTV: Road closures, vehicle checkpoints underway ahead of scaled-down RNC convention in Charlotte
There are multiple road closures in place and a vehicle checkpoint underway in uptown Charlotte as the Republican National Convention gears up to kick off Monday morning.

ROCKINGHAM NOW: N.C. DOT plans about 500 layoffs in wake of storms, Map Act settlements
The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to lay off hundreds of temporary and contractual workers statewide to help cover the costs of repairing roads damaged by hurricanes and other harsh weather and to settle lawsuits — many in Forsyth County — related to a 30-year-old law that was declared unconstitutional.
