Neurology Center of Nevada Reports Recent Data Breach Affecting 11k+ Patients

On September 15, 2022, the Neurology Center of Nevada (“NCNV”) confirmed that the company experienced a data breach when it filed notice of the breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. According to NCNV, the breach resulted in the following patient data being leaked: full names, addresses, dates of birth, genders, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, medical information, diagnosis/treatment information, lab results, and current medications. Recently, NCNV sent out data breach letters to all affected parties, informing them of the incident and what they can do to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

What We Know About the Neurology Center of Nevada Data Breach

Based on a notice posted on the Neurology Center of Nevada website, on July 17, 2022, NCNV noticed that certain computer systems were inaccessible. In response, the company alerted federal law enforcement, restored access to the affected systems, and launched an investigation into the incident to determine what, if any, patient data was exposed during the incident.

The company’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party had access to the NCNV network between June 12, 2022 and July 17, 2022, and that some of the files that were accessible contained sensitive patient information.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, the Neurology Center of Nevada then reviewed the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. The company’s review is not yet complete; however, based on a preliminary investigation, NCNV reports that the breached information may include your full name, address, date of birth, gender, driver’s license number, Social Security number, health insurance information, medical information, diagnosis/treatment information, lab results, and current list of medications.

The company also treats those suffering from sleep disturbances, such as obstructive, complex and central sleep apnea. NCNV operates several locations in Las Vegas, Henderson, and Pahrump, NV. The Neurology Center of Nevada employs more than 25 people, ten of which are neurologists, and generates between $5 to $25 million in annual revenue.
