Former Deputy Attorney General Treg Taylor was named as Alaska’s next attorney general on January 29. Taylor succeeded Clyde “Ed” Sniffen, who removed his name from consideration after being appointed to the position just two weeks prior.

Taylor spent the past two years as deputy attorney general in charge of the Civil Division for Alaska’s Department of Law. He previously worked as senior corporate counsel for the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation and as an attorney at McKinley Capital Management. Taylor also served as a commissioner for Anchorage Municipal Light and Power.

Taylor was a 2016 nonpartisan candidate for District 6, Seat J of the Anchorage Municipal Assembly in Alaska. He was defeated in the general election that occurred on April 5, 2016. Taylor earned both his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from Brigham Young University.

In a press release announcing his appointment, Taylor highlighted the fact that he has spent his entire legal career in Alaska. “I have a profound respect for the role of the Department of Law and for its dedicated employees. I hope that under my leadership the department will continue to provide outstanding legal service to the State, for the good of all Alaskans.”
