On June 28, 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) introduced a new online Biometrics Appointment Rescheduling tool, which allows immigration benefits applicants and their attorneys to reschedule biometrics appointments through their USCIS Online Accounts before their appointment dates.
Before the launch of this online tool, immigration benefit applicants were able to request rescheduling of their biometrics appointments by calling the USCIS Contact Center.
When using the Biometrics Appointments Rescheduling tool, immigration benefits applicants should consider the following:
- It may be used regardless of whether the pending immigration benefit application is filed online or by mail.
- It cannot be used to reschedule an appointment that has been rescheduled two (2) or more times.
- It cannot be used to reschedule an appointment that is within 12 hours.
- It cannot be used to reschedule an appointment that has already passed.
- Immigration benefit applicants may still call the USCIS Contact Center to reschedule their appointments.
- USCIS only accepts untimely rescheduling requests through its Contact Center and will not accept untimely online or mailed rescheduling requests.
- USCIS may consider untimely rescheduling requests based on good cause, which may include:
- Illness, medical appointment, or hospitalization;
- Previously planned travel;
- Significant life events such as a wedding, funeral, or graduation ceremony;
- Inability to obtain transportation to the appointment location;
- Inability to obtain leave from employment or caregiver responsibilities; and
- Late delivered or undelivered biometric services appointment notice.
