The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a February 28th news release proposing penalties for Arizona Traders Co. (“ATC”).
ATC is stated to operate an El Paso, Texas, jewelry metal-plating finisher (“Facility”).
Gold, silver, nickel plating services are provided by the El Paso Facility.
The ATC Facility is stated to have been cited for 12 serious violations. The violations are stated to have included:
- Failure to provide eyewash stations or showers in areas where employees faced risks associated with hydrochloric and nitric acids.
- Improper storage of acetylene and oxygen cylinders.
- Failure to establish/implement a written respiratory protection program with workspace site procedures.
- Failure to assess the presence of – or possibility of – other workplace hazards to determine if personal protection equipment was required.
- Failure to implement a written hazardous communication program.
OSHA has proposed $292,693 in penalties.
ATC has 15 days from receipt of citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s Area Director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
