Several sources have reported that OSHA is moving forward to revise its “Improve Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses” rule which, as of now, will require many employers to electronically report data from their 2016 OSHA 300A forms by December 1, 2017.
The revisions have not been formally announced, but could come before the December 1, 2017 deadline. Industry critics have challenged all aspects of the rule, and especially OSHA’s stated intent to disclose employer safety and health data on the OSHA website.
In view of this development, affected employers should consider delaying reporting as long as possible so as to take advantage of any change in the rule, including yet another extension of the deadline.
Any revisions to the rule will be reported on OSHA’s website, www.osha.gov. Sherman & Howard will issue an additional Update as soon as any change is announced. OSHA’s entire rule, along with any last minute changes, will also be discussed at Sherman & Howard’s Annual Occupational Safety and Health Update, Friday, December 1, 2017, in Westminster, Colorado. Registration and more information can be found here.
