What We Know So Far About the Pathward Breach
News of the Pathward data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from NCB’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine. According to this source, NCB is a national accounts receivable management company that provides account services to companies, including Pathward. On February 4, 2023, NCB discovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to the company’s computer system a few days earlier, on February 1, 2023. In response, NCB launched an investigation into the incident to determine which consumers were impacted and what information may have been compromised.
The NCB investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party were able to access certain files on the company’s computer system that contained confidential consumer information.
Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, NCB Management Services began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. The company learned that some of the compromised data related to customers of Pathward and other companies that rely on services provided by NCB Management Services. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your first and last name, Social Security number, address, phone number, email address, date of birth, employment position, pay amount, driver's license number, account number, credit card number, routing number, account balance, and account status.
On March 24, 2023, NCB Management Services sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident. These letters were addressed to Pathward customers, as well as customers of other companies whose information was leaked in the NCB breach.
