On September 14, 2023, Pharm-Pacc filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Montana after discovering that an unauthorized party gained access to its computer network. In this notice, Pharm-Pacc explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and certain medical information. Upon completing its investigation, Pharm-Pacc began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from Pharm-Pacc, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. As we’ve previously discussed in similar posts, data breaches involving your Social Security number are especially concerning, as hackers can use your SSN to commit identity theft and other frauds. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following the Pharm-Pacc data breach.

What Caused the Pharm-Pacc Breach?

The Pharm-Pacc data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Pharm-Pacc’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on March 24, 2023, Pharm-Pacc detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Pharm-Pacc secured its network and launched an investigation with the assistance of an outside cybersecurity firm.

On May 23, 2023, Pharm-Pacc’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its digital environment.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Pharm-Pacc hired another company to review the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Pharm-Pacc’s vendor completed this process on July 14, 2023. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, account number, medical record number, dates of service, address, driver’s license number, medical device identifier, taxpayer identification number, telephone numbers, email address, medical image, license plate number, and digital signature.

On September 14, 2023, Pharm-Pacc sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
