What Caused the Prestige Care Data Breach?

The Prestige Care data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Prestige Care’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on September 7, 2023, Prestige Care detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Prestige Care launched an investigation, which confirmed its IT system had been infected with malware. This prevented Prestige Care from accessing some of the files on its network.

Prestige Car also learned that an unauthorized party was able to access files containing confidential resident information on September 7, 2023.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Prestige Care reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Prestige Care completed this process on December 18, 2023. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On January 31, 2024, Prestige Care sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
