Effective Monday, March 30, 2020 at 5:00 PM and continuing for an initial period of thirty (30) days, Governor Cooper recently announced a state-wide Stay At Home Order.

This Order delineated certain activities and segments of the economy as being exempt from these Stay At Home provisions. Businesses excluded from the list of COVID-19 Essential Businesses and Operations set forth in the Executive Order who believe that they may be essential can now direct requests to be included as essential to the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Filing instructions, and a link to start the process, are now available at:

North Carolina Department of Revenue: COVID-19 Essential Businesses

It is important to note that existing county stay-at-home orders are not voided by the Governor’s declaration. Further, it is important that companies continue to monitor developments at the county level as Governor Cooper’s order specifically permits counties to enact different, and even stricter, restrictions.
