Could Central Coast get 3 new reservoirs to generate power by pumping water between lakes?
The Fresno Bee – June 3
As the prospect of a floating offshore wind energy development off San Luis Obispo County’s coast gets ever closer, energy storage developers are taking a good look at their prospects in the region. Premium Energy Holdings LLC sent four preliminary permit applications to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission at the end of March for pumped storage projects that involve moving water between reservoirs to generate electricity — which would call for three new reservoirs to be built along the Central Coast.
Sonoma Clean Power and Luminia sign PPA for solar+energy storage project
Solar Industry Magazine – June 6
Luminia and Sonoma Clean Power have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the development of an 11.6 MW solar plus 32 MWh battery storage project in Sonoma. Construction of the 75-acre project is expected in the second half of 2023.
Oregon utility builds nation’s first large-scale wind, solar, and battery facility
OPB – June 7
Portland General Electric has constructed a facility in Lexington that will use innovative battery storage technology that proponents call a “game changer” for Oregon’s renewable energy transition. The Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility is about 30 miles from the utility’s now shuttered Boardman coal plant and uses the same transmission lines. The facility, which started operating in March, generates 350 MW of clean energy — enough to power about 100,000 homes. The batteries store 30 MW of energy.

The state of Washington’s Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council is considering two more proposed solar energy projects near the recently-approved Black Rock Solar facility in eastern Yakima County. Santa Monica-based Cypress Creek Renewables has proposed the projects, High Top Solar and Ostrea Solar.
