NextEra Energy Resources poised to double U.S. energy storage capacity
Solar Industry Magazine – September 1
NextEra Energy Resources has highlighted a suite of clean energy storage developments in California that could nearly double the total installed capacity of battery storage available in the U.S. The company plans to build nearly 700 MW of fully-contracted battery storage projects in California before the end of 2022. NextEra Energy Resources also has a current pipeline of nearly 2,000 MW of shovel-ready or near shovel-ready battery energy storage projects in California that could be deployed to help meet the energy storage capacity requirements put forth by the CPUC.
Eos announces 1.5 GWh of zinc battery storage in California and Texas
PV Magazine – September 2
Eos Energy Storage has entered into an agreement to supply 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of standalone battery energy storage systems to International Electric Power, in projects connected to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid. Eos will manufacture, design, and deliver multiple battery energy storage projects to the grid from the third quarter of 2021. The company has also entered into an agreement with Carson Hybrid Energy Storage to supply the company with 500 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage systems for the California power grid.
Community microgrid gets boost from energy storage in California’s Goleta load pocket
Microgrid Knowledge – September 2
As part of an ambitious project that aims to deploy a community microgrid that will help avoid outages due to fires, earthquakes, mudslides, and other disasters in the Goleta load pocket, 40 MWh of utility-scale storage will go online in December. The Vallecito Energy Storage Resilience project, located in Carpinteria, is the first piece of a community microgrid–planned to go online around 2025. In order to achieve 100% resilience, the area needs 200 MW of solar and 400 MWh of storage.
Wasatch Energy and sonnen to install 60-MWh apartment-based solar + storage fleet
Solar Power World – August 27
Sonnen and Wasatch Energy Group are partnering to deploy a series of residential virtual power plant (VPP) projects in California. The Wasatch California VPP Fleet I and II will outfit some 3,000 residential apartment homes with solar generation and intelligent battery energy storage.
