Hi there,
I hope you all had as good a Fourth of July weekend as I did! My weekend was filled with family, horses and some extreme gardening. Just coordinating the activities of an intact three-generation family is hard. It can seem insurmountable when you’re struggling to coparent post-divorce, especially during the summer when school is out. Summer camps, baseball, ballet, sailing lessons, time with both parents, how do you keep it all straight? Many conflicts can be avoided with the use of proper planning tools.
This summer, take a proactive approach to collaboration with your coparent. One of the best methods is a shared cyber calendar, and luckily there are an overwhelming number available. One of the earliest and hence the most popular is Our Family Wizard. A couple of other good choices are 2Houses.com and Both Parents. Consistent use can result in less time spent in contact with a former spouse and more time spent with the kids.
It’s never to late to start trying this. I know a number of high conflict couples who actually can manage to coparent well with a calendar, text or email communication, and as the last resort a Parent Coordinator.
The more information you can share civilly with each other, the better off your kids will be.
Enjoy the beautiful weather and the summer!
Best,
Nancy
