(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) June 29, 2015—The unsecured creditors committee in the bankruptcy case of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis today released a video inviting survivors of clergy abuse to file a claim before the August 3, 2015, deadline.

The committee is made up of five clergy abuse survivors. Their job is to represent the interests of all the unsecured creditors in the archdiocese bankruptcy case.

The video features three members of the committee: Jim, 48, a psychologist; Marie, 30, a stay-at-home mom of two kids; and Curt, 58, a police officer for 30 years.

Each of the three survivors offers a compelling glimpse into his or her personal story of abuse and how they dealt with the difficult process of coming forward to face their past, pursue their legal rights and begin living life as a survivor as opposed to a victim.

Jim, Marie and Curt encourage all survivors of clergy abuse to follow their example and join other survivors to help ensure that the church is a safe haven for parishioners of all ages both in the Twin Cities and around the globe.

All survivors of clergy abuse who step forward to make a claim before August 3, 2015, can remain confidential and protect their rights in this historic case. Survivors who do not file their claim by August 3 may forfeit their rights.

"Dozens of survivors have already stepped forward," says Rob Kugler, a bankruptcy attorney at Stinson Leonard Street LLP who represents the unsecured creditors committee. "The committee encourages all other survivors to join this cause and ensure that their rights are protected by filing a claim on or before August 3."
