Virtual primary care company HealthTap recently announced that it has partnered with Samsung to provide telehealth services through Samsung smart TVs. Users will be able to connect to the HealthTap platform and schedule a doctor visit using a built-in camera on the television.
Consumers who pay $15 per month for HealthTap’s platform will be able to send free text messages to their doctors, and schedule $39 video appointments and $59 visits for 24/7 urgent care. HealthTap says it already serves tens of millions of people online and provides thousands of doctor visits per year.
Like other large consumer electronic companies, Samsung has been expanding into healthcare, with mobile devices and hardware for hospitals, home health and remote patient monitoring. The company recently unveiled a new smart TV communication hub to be made available to hospital patients and senior care residents.
