On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, a federal court in Hawaii temporarily enjoined the Executive Order commonly known as the “travel ban” that was to take effect today (Thursday, March 16, 2017). Several other federal courts have been asked to review the executive order as well.
As explained in our earlier post, the ban would have prevented entry for nationals of certain countries as well as suspended refugee admissions for a period of time.
The decision enjoining the travel ban was based on the State of Hawaii’s expectation of harm to its universities and economy, as well as the preliminary showing that the Executive Order targets Muslims.
