The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced in a February 20th news release that it was awarding $420,000 to the Arkansas Department of Education to assist with identifying sources of lead in drinking water in schools or child care facilities.
The grant is funded through EPA’s Voluntary Lead Testing in Schools and Child Care grant program.
EPA states it has nationally awarded $43.7 million in grants towards funding the implementation of testing for lead in drinking water. Such funding is stated to be a resource for creating or expanding programs to test for lead in drinking water at schools or in child care programs.
The objective of the program is to reduce childhood lead exposures.
