Yesterday, Alexander Ramsay, the Chair of the Preparatory Committee published the following article on the UPC website summing up 2017 and the plan ahead for 2018:
Summing up and Looking Forward to 2018
The summary notes that the case pending in the German Federal Constitutional Court (and consequent delay to the German ratification of the UPCA) has caused a delay to the timeline for the entry into force of the UPC. Mr Ramsey also states that the uncertainty caused by the case makes it difficult to predict a new timeline, however, that that the Committee were using the additional time to prepare the functionality of the Court.
The note goes on to explain that some parts of the preparatory work can only be concluded when we have entered the final phase of the project known as ‘provisional application’. The rest of the summary highlights the importance of this final phase and what it means.
