The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has released an announcement (https://www.uspto.gov/uspto-operating-status) regarding its operational status if parts of the government have a lapse in funding. Should this happen, the USPTO has access to prior-year fees and can remain open for normal business for a few weeks. However, should the agency use up these funds before a partial shutdown ends, the agency would shut down, but a small staff will remain to accept new applications and maintain various other functions.
