Matt serves as co-chair of our insurance practice group, guiding policyholders, insurers and insurance professionals on everything from policy placement through the litigation process for disputed claims.

He has drafted insurance policies, worked with regulators and presented insurance concepts to bar groups.

A litigation partner with extensive insurance experience, Matt has successfully identified applicable coverage issues overlooked by others in the industry, fundamentally improving our clients' business outlook. For more than a decade, Matt has scrutinized disputed policy language, drawn upon his extensive knowledge of insurance law and recognized salient facts to craft creative solutions for clients.

David Duffy

David concentrates his practice in product liability and complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts in Illinois and elsewhere.

He has experience in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters including, among others: failed multi-million dollar enterprise software implementations, consumer class actions, employment-related claims, including the enforcement of restrictive covenants, wrongful termination and defamation. His product liability experience includes the defense of mass tort and serious injury matters. David also has litigated insurance coverage disputes and has experience managing complex e-discovery issues.

David has provided advice to companies regarding electronic records management and litigation preparedness, and lectures on each of these subjects. Prior to joining Thompson Coburn, he served the public as a prosecutor, public defender and personal injury attorney in a Chicago firm dedicated to the prosecution of serious injury and wrongful death cases. These employments provided David with significant jury and non-jury trial experience.

John supports clients by securing valuable insurance coverage, drafting indemnity provisions and contractual insurance terms, as well as other general insurance related matters.

John is skilled in providing counsel on matters involving risk management and policy and coverage review. He is also experienced in indemnity and contractually liability litigation and counseling. He also has substantial experience in transportation and railroad litigation, eminent domain, and oil and gas litigation.
