What We Know So Far About the Webster Bank Breach

News of the Webster Bank data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Maine Attorney General. According to this source, on January 26, 2023, Webster Bank learned that one of the company’s vendors, Guardian Analytics, Inc., experienced a data security incident that may have affected Webster Bank customers. In response, Guardian launched an investigation into the incident in hopes of learning more about the causes of the breach and what, if any, consumer data was leaked.

The Guardian investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its computer system between November 27, 2022 and January 22, 2023. Webster Bank later learned that some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized actor contained confidential information belonging to certain bank clients.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Webster Bank began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and financial account information.

On April 10, 2023, Webster Bank sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
