In recent months, data breaches have become more common. Just last week, there were about 18 data breaches, including those involving Ferraro, Pederson Worldwide, University Title, Valley View Hospital, Phoenix Technology Services, Riviera Utilities, Smith Transport, Circle Federal Credit Union, Fairfield County Implants & Periodontics, Wells Fargo, El Monte RV, Paramit, Great Plains Beef and Lone Creek Cattle Company, Simonson Lumber, Elephant Insurance, WellDyneRx, North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic and Cornish College of the Arts.

Ferrara Candy

On October 9, 2021, Ferrara Candy first discovered a data security incident impacting the company’s computer system. However, based on an official filing by the company, the unauthorized access began a week earlier, on October 2, 2021. In response, Ferrara Candy investigated the incident, ultimately confirming that sensitive consumer data was compromised

As a result of the Ferrara Candy breach, the following information belonging to affected individuals was compromised: names, dates of birth, financial account information, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, birth certificates, passport numbers or other government issued identification numbers, digital / electronic signatures, mother’s maiden names, and/or medical information.

On April 29, 2022, Ferrara issued data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

Pederson Worldwide

Pederson Worldwide, the parent company of Del Sol and Cariloha, detected unauthorized access to the company’s computer system on March 30, 2022. In response, the company investigated the incident and the impact it had on the information in the company’s possession. On April 21, 2022, Pederson Worldwide completed its review of the compromised files, and on April 29, 2022, Pederson Worldwide sent out data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

University Title

The University Title breach stems from two days of unauthorized access to the company’s computer systems between August 2, 2021 and August 3, 2021. However, it was not until March 30, 2022, that the company was able to identify which parties were affected by the breach and what information was compromised. University Title has not yet made public the type of information that was leaked as a result of the breach. However, on April 29, 2022, University Title issued data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

Valley View Hospital

The Valley View Hospital breach impacted the names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, and medical information of certain patients. Evidently, on January 19, 2022, Valley View Hospital first learned of the data security incident. At that point, the hospital conducted an investigation into the incident. Through this investigation, the Valley View Hospital learned that the breach was the result of several compromised employee email accounts. At this point, Valley View Hospital reviewed the affected files to determine which patients were affected, and on April 28, 2022, Valley View Hospital issued data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

Phoenix Technology Services

On December 2, 2021, Phoenix Technology Services learned of an incident affecting its computer system, as well as the information in the company’s possession. Upon investigating the incident, Phoenix Technology Services confirmed that the unauthorized access began on November 24, 2021, although it was not discovered until more than a week later. It was during this time that the unauthorized party had access to the company’s computer system.

As a result of the Phoenix Technology Services breach, the following information belonging to certain individuals was leaked: full names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, banking account numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, dependent/beneficiary names, dependent and/or beneficiary addresses, dependent and/or beneficiary Social Security numbers, dependent and/or beneficiary dates of birth.

On April 29, 2022, Phoenix Technology sent out data breach letters to those employees whose information was compromised in the breach.

Riviera Utilities

Last year, Riviera Utilities suffered a data security event impacting the safety of information in the company’s possession. While Riviera Utilities does not disclose the day it first learned of the incident, the company provided notice of the breach on March 28, 2022. At that point, the company conducted a review of all affected files to determine what, if any, consumer information was compromised.

Evidently, the breached information may include parties’ names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state identification numbers, passport numbers, medical information, health insurance information, credit or debit card numbers, card expiration dates and card CVVs.

On April 26, 2022, Riviera Utilities sent out data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

Smith Transport

Earlier this year, on February 12, 2022, Smith Transport learned of a data security incident affecting its computer system. This prompted the company to conduct an investigation into the incident. On April 12, 2022, Smith Transport confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access and potentially remove sensitive files from the company’s computer network.

As a result of the Smith Transport breach, the names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and state-issued identification numbers of affected parties were compromised.

On April 27, 2022, Smith Transport issued data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.

Circle Federal Credit Union

According to official notice provided by the company, Circle Federal Credit Union was the target of a February 16, 2022 cyberattack. As a result of the attack, an unauthorized party was able to gain access to the Circle Federal Credit Union computer system, which contained sensitive consumer information. Subsequently, the company was able to determine that the unauthorized party was able to access the files between the dates of January 27, 2022 and January 28, 2022.

As a result of the Circle Federal Credit Union, the first and last names, mailing addresses, account numbers, and Social Security numbers were compromised.

On May 4, 2022, CFCU sent out data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach and what steps they can take to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

Fairfield County Implants & Periodontics

On March 2, 2022, Fairfield County Implants & Periodontics first learned of an incident involving unauthorized access to an employee's email account. In response, the company investigated the incident, learning that an unauthorized party was able to view and potentially retrieve sensitive information belonging to certain consumers.

While the breached information varies based on the individual, it may include affected parties’ names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and medical history treatment information.

On April 15, 2022, Fairfield County Implants & Periodontics issued data breach letters to those whose information was compromised in the breach.
