Ms. Katherine Horton, a 97-year-old resident at Traditions Senior Living in Athens, Alabama, shared her childhood memories of women exercising their newly won right to vote.
How did the women in your family help pave the way for your right to vote?
My husband's aunt, Claire Hobbs lived in Washington, D.C. with her husband who was a General in the Army. We had a picture of her marching in Washington, D.C., to have the vote passed for women to be able to vote.
Why is voting important to you?
Women deserve to be on equal footing to men, for one thing. It's part of our heritage – we ought to be able to vote – everyone should be able to vote. It's been a long time, but women have come a long way too.
