What Caused the Affinity Health Services Data Breach?

The Affinity Health Services data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, AHS’ filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, AHS is a company that manages senior living facilities. On April 24, 2023, AHS learned that it had experienced a network security incident. In response, AHS secured its digital environment and then began working with external cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident.

The AHS investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of the AHS network, including files containing confidential information related to current and former patients and employees. The AHS data breach letter indicates that Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was affected; however, AHS did not definitively state that Claremont was the only AHS facility impacted by the breach.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Affinity Health Services reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, Social Security number, and health information.

On March 18, 2024, Affinity Health Services sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
