  • A group of 21 AGs wrote a letter to the White House Office of Management and Budget asking it to quickly finalize its review of an FDA proposed rule that would ban menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars.
  • In the letter, the AGs assert that banning menthol-flavored cigarettes and flavored cigars will save lives, in part because the flavors disguise the hard taste of tobacco and make the products more appealing to youth and people who have never smoked. They also argue that claims that a menthol ban will lead to abusive policing in Black communities are unfounded because the proposed regulations do not prohibit individual consumer possession or use.
  • The AGs note that they have collectively gained significant expertise in enforcement of tobacco laws and regulations, and emphasize that finalizing the rule will protect the public from dangerous products, one of their utmost priorities.
