Bradford-Scott Data Sends Data Breach Letters to Customers of Wellness Federal Credit Union and Others

On March 8, 2024, Bradford-Scott Data, LLC (“Bradford-Scott”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of the company’s IT network. In this notice, Bradford-Scott explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names and Social Security numbers. What Caused the Bradford-Scott Data Breach?

The Bradford-Scott Data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. According to this source, Bradford-Scott provides technology services to Wellness Federal Credit Union, as well as other companies.

On July 2, 2023, Bradford-Scott detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, Bradford-Scott secured its network and then began working with third-party data forensic specialists to investigate the incident and determine what, if any, consumer information was leaked as a result.

Through this investigation, Bradford-Scott learned that an unauthorized party was able to access part of its IT network between May 19, 2023 and May 28, 2023, including certain files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Bradford-Scott Data reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On March 8, 2024, Bradford-Scott Data sent out data breach letters to customers of Wellness Federal Credit Union who were affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised. Bradford-Scott notes that it will continue “to provide notification to individuals on behalf of data owners on a rolling basis,” meaning there may be customers of other Bradford-Data clients who were impacted by the incident.
