Connecticut AG Latest to Bring Suit Against PFAS Manufacturers

  • Connecticut AG William Tong filed two lawsuits against 28 chemical manufacturers for alleged violations of state environmental and consumer protection laws related to contamination caused by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”).
  • According to the complaints, the companies allegedly knew of the harms to the environment and human health caused by PFAS, but intentionally concealed those harms for financial gain. The complaints relate to PFAS contamination from two sources—foam used in firefighting, and chemicals used in manufacturing that are added to products—such as cookware and clothing to make them resistant to stains, water, and heat.
  • The lawsuits seek injunctive relief, damages, equitable relief, civil penalties, restitution, disgorgement, punitive damages, prejudgment interest, and costs and fees, among other relief.
  • We have recently covered other actions brought by AGs against PFAS manufacturers, including Ohio AG Dave Yost’s $110 million settlement with DuPont de Nemours, Inc. and lawsuits filed by Arizona, Maryland, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.
