  • Connecticut AG William Tong submitted testimony in support of state Senate Bill No. 15, proposed legislation that would require fee disclosures across several consumer industries including ticket sales, food and beverage sales, and lodging accommodations.
  • In his testimony, AG Tong expressed his support for the proposed legislation, which would require sellers to include all mandatory fees in the advertised total price. AG Tong applauded the bill for addressing loopholes in previous legislation and for bolstering the FTC’s recently proposed Trade Regulation Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees by providing a state enforcement mechanism through the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act.  Additionally, AG Tong expressed that his office would support an even broader bill that extends such requirements across all sectors.
  • As previously reported, AG Tong was one of 19 AGs who filed a comment letter supporting the FTC’s proposed Trade Regulation Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees.
  • The FTC’s proposed rule and similar efforts from the CFPB and California were previously covered here.
