On January 27, the Enforcement Division of the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) settled with a data broker for failing to register and pay an annual fee, pertinent to the California Data Broker Registry under the Delete Act. The Connecticut-based data broker agreed to pay $55,800 to resolve claims of non-compliance from February 1 to November 5, 2024. The company also agreed to injunctive terms, including covering attorney fees and related costs.
As previously covered by InfoBytes, the CPPA announced an investigative sweep in October 2024 to ensure data brokers comply with the Delete Act. This was the fifth action taken by CPPA against unregistered data brokers. The next registration deadline is January 31 for businesses operating as data brokers in 2024. Failure to comply by then can result in $200 in fines per day.
