The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently extended the meaningful use attestation deadline for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program from February 28, 2018, to March 16, 2018. The extension provides Medicare eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) with additional time to submit attestation data and electronic clinical quality measure data.

Eligible hospitals and CAHs submitting meaningful use attestations for the EHR Incentive Program are required to submit data through the QualityNet Secure Portal (QNet). Dually eligible hospitals and CAHs must register or update their registrations with both QNet and the EHR Incentive Program Registration and Attestation System and then must attest through QNet. Medicaid-only eligible hospitals and CAHs should contact their state Medicaid agencies for specific information on how to attest.

Hospitals are reminded to keep detailed documentation to support their attestation.

DISCLAIMER: Because of the generality of this update, the information provided herein may not be applicable in all situations and should not be acted upon without specific legal advice based on particular situations.
