U.S. Cyber Chief Says Trump Hasn’t Told Him to Confront Russian Cyber Threat
CNN reports this week, “U.S. Cyber Command chief Adm. Mike Rogers told lawmakers on Tuesday that he has not been granted the authority by President Donald Trump to disrupt Russian election hacking operations where they originate. The NSA chief went on to tell lawmakers that the U.S. is smart enough and strong enough to prevent Russian election hacking but admitted not enough is being done.”

SEC Releases Updated Cybersecurity Guidance
Health Info Security reports this week that, “The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has released revised cybersecurity guidance for publicly traded companies. The guidance, approved unanimously by the commission on Tuesday, is meant ‘to assist public companies in preparing disclosures about cybersecurity risks and incidents,’ the SEC says.”

FTC Recommends Steps to Improve Mobile Device Security Update Practices
An FTC press release this week announced, “A new Federal Trade Commission report finds that the complexity of the mobile ecosystem means that the security update process for patching operating system software on some mobile devices is intricate and time-consuming. While noting that industry participants have taken steps to streamline the process, the report recommends that manufacturers consider taking additional steps to get more security updates to user devices faster. It also recommends that manufacturers consider telling users how long a device will receive security updates and when update support is ending.”
