On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, the INVEST in America Act (H.R. 3684) approved by the House of Representatives cleared its first hurdle in the Senate. The Senate voted 67 to 32 (with one senator absent) to proceed to debate on the bill. This brings the bill one step closer to a vote on $725 billion dollars in infrastructure investments over the next several years. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D. NY) continues to suggest that the infrastructure package is tied to President Biden’s American Jobs Act. However, it does not appear that the Senate will stall debate (and hopefully, a vote) on the infrastructure package waiting for the jobs bill. Mr. Schumer also stated that both bills are on track to be passed before the August recess.
