  • Republican Liz Murrill and Democrat Lindsey Cheek will face off in a November runoff election to replace current Louisiana AG Jeff Landry, who won the state’s governor’s race.
  • Louisiana’s open primary system requires a candidate to receive a majority of the primary votes to win; if no candidate does so, the top two candidates advance to a runoff election in November. Landry earned over half of the gubernatorial vote, so he was elected governor outright. Murrill, Louisiana’s Solicitor General, obtained just under 50% of the vote in the AG primary and will face second-place finisher Cheek, a lawyer in private practice.
