  • Massachusetts AG Andrea Campbell issued an Advisory on the Application of the Commonwealth’s Consumer Protection, Civil Rights, and Data Privacy Laws to Artificial Intelligence.
  • The advisory clarified that existing state consumer protection, anti-discrimination, and data security laws apply to emerging technology, including AI systems, and that AI developers, suppliers, and users must take appropriate steps to safeguard personal data utilized by AI systems and comply with the state’s data breach notification requirements.
  • The advisory cautioned that AI systems have already been shown to pose serious risks including bias, lack of transparency or explainability, and implications for data privacy.
