  • Andrea Campbell has defeated Shannon Liss-Riordan in the race for the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts AG. Campbell, the first Black woman in the state’s history to be nominated as a Democrat for statewide office, received 73,000 votes to Liss-Riordan’s 56,000. Campbell will run against Republican Jay McMahon in the fall general election for the state AG position, vacated by the departing AG Maura Healey.
  • Healey, who is running for Massachusetts governor, will face Geoff Diehl, a former state lawmaker endorsed by Donald Trump. If she wins, she will be the first woman elected governor in the history of the state and, along with Tina Kotek, a candidate for governor of Oregon, one of the first two openly lesbian governors in the country. Another woman, Jane Swift, served as the state’s first female governor, but assumed the position after then-governor Paul Cellucci became ambassador to Canada in 2001.
  • The Massachusetts results mark the end of the 2022 AG primary season, setting the field for the November 8 general elections. As always, click here for our coverage of the results of those elections—plus any developments in the interim.
