What Caused the Oak View Group Data Breach?

The Oak View Group data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, OVG’s filing with the Attorney General of Iowa provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 26, 2023, OVG detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, OVG took its systems offline and then launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity specialists.

The OVG investigation ultimately confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to certain parts of its IT network, including files containing confidential information related to employees of the company.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Oak View Group reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. OVG completed this process on December 14, 2023. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number. OVG notes that it is notifying all current and former employees from 2019 to present.

On January 10, 2024, Oak View Group sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
