What Caused the Breach Affecting City National Bank of Florida Customers?

The City National Bank of Florida data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, CNBF’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, CNBF uses a file-transfer software created by Progress Software, LLC, called MOVEit. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced a zero-day vulnerability affecting MOVEit. The vulnerability allowed hackers to view and remove data that was transferred using the software.

After learning about the zero-day vulnerability, CNBF immediately launched an investigation to determine whether customer information was affected. On June 3, 2023, the City National Bank of Florida was able to confirm that certain confidential information stored within the company's MOVEit platform was accessed and removed on May 29th or May 30th by an unauthorized party.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, City National Bank of Florida reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your first and last name, date of birth, bank account numbers, Social Security number, email address and mailing address.
