On Saturday, September 6, 2014, President Obama stated that he would not pursue executive action to stop the deportations of millions of undocumented immigrants until after the November midterm elections.  This is contrary to an announcement the President made last June that he would take executive action by summer’s end.  At recent appearances, the President stated that the surge of immigrant children entering the U.S. illegally at the border has changed the politics of this decision, but that without legislation from Congress, he will still act on his own to offer undocumented immigrants a way to become legal residents, while taking steps to increase border security.  White House officials have stated that the President will act on immigration reform by the end of the year.
