Readers may recall that there are at least two challenges to California's female director quota mandate (aka SB 826).  In June, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals resurrected one suit by holding that the challenger has standing.  Meland v. Weber, 2 F. 4th 838 (2021).  On Tuesday, California Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis heard "extensive arguments from alls sides" on the Secretary of State's motion for summary judgment.  Crest v. Padilla, L.A. Super. Ct. Case No. 19STCV27561.  Judge Duffy-Lewis took the matter under submission and a ruling is expected shortly.  If the motion is denied, a trial is currently scheduled for October.
